Monastery of Batalha Library

This library was set up from the gradual acquisition of publications starting in the 1980s, as well as from restoration of an archive with documentation about 19th-century restoration works in the Monastery.

Services

• There is free access to the library. Photocopies may be taken and paid for at the library premises.
• Users have direct access to the library items.
• An Access database may be used to search any library items.
• The library can seat 8 people.
• Users may take portable computers.

Main themes and target users

All areas can be found, though the main themes are Art, History and the Monastery of Batalha.
Most books may be borrowed.
Target users are the public in general, and History and Arts professionals.

Holdings

The Library includes books, multi-copy texts, magazines, bulletins, journals, temporary exhibition catalogues and an archive with documentation about 19th-century restoration works in the Monastery.
There are 900 items, 32 dossiers and archive documentation.

General information

The library can be found on the upper floor of King Afonso V’s Cloister.

Opening hours

Monday to Friday, from 09h00 to 12h30 and from 14h00 to 17h30.
It closes on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.
