1. in the theme list, the user has to select the boxes visível / activo ( visible / active) next to the desired theme in order to make it visible or to activate it. You can do this with a mouse click in the rectangular / circular boxes next to the theme.
2. click on the refrescar mapa (refresh map) button in order for the changes to take effect.

note: it is only possible to activate one theme at a time. You can choose all the desired visible themes.

The alphanumeric search is case-sensitive. In order for this search to succeed you have to obey the following rule: the first letter of a word has to be a capital one, all the others should be small. In texts with more than one word the rule still applies excluding the prepositions (de, da, etc.). An example of a valid text (see "search" or "find" in the instruction table on the toolbar) is "Palácio dos Marqueses de Fronteira".

When the user makes a selection of a set of real estates it is retrieved a table with the description of the real estate (located under the map) and the colour yellow is given to the points on the map that represent that real estate. The first column on that list has a number that works as a link. This link allows to geographically locate the real estate by making a zoom to the area and by giving the colour red to the point that represents that real estate.

The various functions available in the toolbar are described in the following table.

Description of the toolbar

"Zoom in"	The "zoom in" button  allows to enlarge the map (increase the scale) from a specific point or from an area defined by the user.	1. select  from the toolbar; 2. in the map, click on the area you wish to enlarge or define the desired area with a rectangle (keep the left button of the mouse pressed in order to define the area).
"Zoom out"	The "zoom out" button  allows to reduce the map (decrease the scale) from a specific point or from an area defined by the user.	1. select from the toolbar; 2. click with the cursor over the area that you want to reduce in order to decrease the scale.
Show all	The "show all" button  allows the user to have a visualisation scale that covers all the themes that compose the map, permitting a global vision.
Previous image	The "Previous image" button goes back to the last image seen by the user before he altered the position ("move" button) or the scale ("zoom in" or "zoom out" button).
Move	The "Move" button  allows to move the map in the desired direction, maintaining the same scale.	1. select in the toolbar;  2. with the mouse left-button pressed, move the map to the desired direction.
Identify	A table with attributes related to a geographic theme is associated to each theme. The attributes table has a record for each of the theme's geographic entity, either represented by a point, a polygon or a line. The "Identify" button  allows to visualise the attributes of a determined active theme, selecting the point (any kind of real estate, parish, municipality, etc.), polygon (municipality or parish boundaries, etc) or lines (rivers) of the desired data.	1. activate the theme (on the theme list) on which you want information; 2. select in the toolbar; 3. click with the cursor on the desired entity (point, polygon or line).
Search	The "Search" button  selects and shows the alphanumeric data related to the records of the active theme that match the search made by the user. The search is made over the attributes or fields of the active theme's table. Recommended to search alphanumeric data on a given theme.	1. activate the theme (on the theme list) on which you want information; 2. select from the toolbar; 3. chose the campo a pesquisar (field to search) of the active theme (i.e., if the active theme is monumentos nacionais (national monuments), the user can perform a search by nome (name), distrito (county), concelho (municipality), freguesia (parish) or by any other field of the national monuments' attributes table. 4. in the field "valor" , write the text to search. It will retrieve all the records of the active theme that include, on the predefined field of the attributes table, the chosen characters (i.e., if the active theme is "Sede de Concelho" (Municipality Seat) and the chosen "Campo" and "Valor" are "Nome" and "Alm", the search selects the municipality seats of Almeida, Almeirim, Almada and Almodôvar - this search is case-sensitive).   5.  click on the Adicionar para pesquisa (add to search) button; 6. click on the "Executar" (Execute) button. It is also possible to Cancel ("Cancelar") and to Clear ("Limpar"). The result is a list with all the records that match the search. The list has a link to each one of the records, allowing to show its location on the map.   NOTE: The value (valor) to search can be inputted by the user in the proper field, or can be selected from the several examples shown if the "mostrar exemplos" (show examples) button is pressed.
Find	The "Find" button  allows to input a text that is compared with the alphanumeric data that compose all the fields from the attribute table of the active theme, retrieving to the user all the records of the active theme that contain exactly the inputted text.	1. activate the theme (on the theme list) on which you want alphanumeric information; 2. select  from the toolbar; 3. input the text in the proper field (it is case-sensitive) ; 4. click on "encontrar texto" (find text);
Select by rectangle	The "Select by rectangle" button allows to select records from the active theme.	1. activate the theme (on the theme list) on which you want information; 2. select  from the toolbar; 3. with the mouse's left-button pressed, draw a rectangle on the map. The records inside the rectangle will be selected. These will be highlighted with the colour yellow and will remain like this until another selection is made or cancelled.
Select by line/polygon	The "Select by line/polygon" button allows to select records from the active theme that are intersected by a line or a polygon drawn by the user.
Clear selection	The "Clear Selection" button  clears the previous selection.
Create buffer	The "Create buffer" button  allows to create a buffer with a determined range of action around a predefined selection, retrieving the records of a theme that are included in the buffer.	1. make a selection; 2. select  from the toolbar; 3. select the theme whose records you want to identify inside the buffer area; 4. input the distance (in Km) that determines the range of action of the buffer; 5. select the box "visualizar atributos" (show attributes) to obtain data from the theme attributes that are inside the buffer area; 6. click on the "Create buffer" button
Print	The "Print" button  allows the user to print the GIS data search heritage map as well as to define a title for it.	1. select  from the toolbar; 2. write the title for the map; 3. click on the "Print" button. A new window will be opened containing the map that can be printed.
	To print the record list, the information has to be copied to an Excel file and only then printed.	1. select the data from the record list; 2. copy this data using the keys: "ctrl + c"; 3. in the Excel file use: "ctrl + v" to paste the data.
